Herbaria are the collections created by drying and storing the plants without losing its certain features by scientific methods. Herbariums provide scientific resources for many research fields. The plants in herbariums are grouped and stored in a certain order. Herbariums are basically set up to reveal the flora of a region, to show its presence, to recognize its general characteristics and to save, protect and to deposit for future generations the plants which are difficult to find. The aim of this study is to identify the encountered problems of herbariums in terms of interior design by investigating herbariums’ functions and requirements which has a museum-like preservation feature for plant samples and offer a functional, aesthetic design suggestions for suitable for archiving. In this study, by examining the herbariums in the World and Turkey, Akdeniz University Herbarium’s interior and its’ fittings were visualized via 2 dimensional and 3 dimensional drawing programs. It is thought that this study will contribute to the herbariums’ interior design in the future, whose architectural standards have not been determined, yet.
