Effects of Trichoderma pubescens on the Growth and Yield of Maize (Zea mays L.)
Abstract
This study investigated the effects of Trichoderma pubescens as a microbial fertilizer on the growth and yield of maize (Zea mays L.) under field conditions. The experiments were conducted using three doses of T. pubescens (40 g, 30 g, and 20 g), with an untreated control group for comparison. Key agronomic parameters, including plant height, cob length, leaf weight, stem weight, root weight, and grain weight, were measured to assess the impact of the treatments. The results showed that the 40 g dose consistently produced the highest values across all parameters, significantly outperforming the other doses and the control group. Specifically, the 40 g dose resulted in a 207% increase in grain weight, a 239% increase in cob weight, a 370% increase in stem weight, and a 342% increase in root weight compared to the control group. These findings suggest that T. pubescens is highly effective in promoting both vegetative growth and yield in maize plants. The study highlights the potential of T. pubescens to enhance nutrient uptake, root development, and overall plant vigor through its symbiotic relationship with maize roots. The observed improvements in growth and yield parameters demonstrate the viability of T. pubescens as a sustainable alternative to chemical fertilizers, contributing to environmentally friendly agricultural practices. This research provides valuable insights into the use of microbial fertilizers in maize cultivation and offers a promising strategy for increasing agricultural productivity while reducing environmental impact.
