Designing An Android Application for Accelerating Food Delivery Pick-Ups

Abstract

Food delivery mobile applications continue to expand in the United States, with the market growing significantly as of 2025. However, food delivery pick-ups often experience delays or go unnoticed by restaurants, particularly in shopping mall environments. This study presents the design and development of an Android application aimed at improving the efficiency of food delivery pick-ups. The proposed application introduces a method that enables delivery drivers to receive their orders faster from restaurants, thereby reducing waiting times. In current practice, the use of personal mobile devices by delivery workers can sometimes distract from order readiness, leading to delayed pick-ups and diminished service quality. By streamlining order notifications and focusing driver attention on the pick-up process, this Android application improves delivery efficiency, reduces operational delays, and enhances overall customer satisfaction. The application was developed using Java and tested on an Android tablet and two Android smartphones equipped with SIM card slots to ensure reliability across devices. The main objective of this study is to enable food delivery drivers to focus on the ongoing pick-up process rather than being distracted by non-essential mobile phone use.

Abstract

Mobil yemek dağıtım uygulamaları, Amerika Birleşik Devletleri'nde büyümeye devam ediyor ve pazar 2025 itibarıyla önemli ölçüde büyüyor. Ancak, özellikle alışveriş merkezi ortamlarında, yemek dağıtım alımları genellikle gecikmeler yaşıyor veya restoranlar tarafından fark edilmiyor. Bu çalışma, yemek dağıtım alımlarının verimliliğini artırmayı amaçlayan bir Android uygulamasının tasarımını ve geliştirmesini sunmaktadır. Önerilen uygulama, teslimat sürücülerinin siparişlerini restoranlardan daha hızlı almalarını ve böylece bekleme sürelerini azaltmalarını sağlayan bir yöntem sunmaktadır. Mevcut uygulamada, teslimat çalışanlarının kişisel mobil cihazlarını kullanması bazen siparişin hazır olmasını engelleyebiliyor ve bu da alımların gecikmesine ve hizmet kalitesinin düşmesine neden olabiliyor. Sipariş bildirimlerini kolaylaştırarak ve sürücü dikkatini alım sürecine odaklayarak, bu Android uygulaması teslimat verimliliğini artırıyor, operasyonel gecikmeleri azaltıyor ve genel müşteri memnuniyetini artırıyor. Uygulama Java kullanılarak geliştirilmiş ve cihazlar arasında güvenilirliği sağlamak için SIM kart yuvalı bir Android tablet ve iki Android akıllı telefonda test edilmiştir. Bu çalışmanın temel amacı, yemek dağıtım sürücülerinin gereksiz cep telefonu kullanımıyla dikkati dağılmak yerine devam eden alım sürecine odaklanmalarını sağlamaktır.
