A Rare Case of Brucella Epididymoorchitis and Spondylodiscitis Occurring Together
Abstract
Brucellosis is a zoonotic infectious disease that is common worldwide. Because it can cause systemic involvement, prolonged fever, and localized infection in all systems, it must be kept in mind in differential diagnoses. Since it is endemic in our country, it should be considered especially in patients with spondylodiscitis and epididymoorchitis, and in cases of fever of unknown origin. Although it could be considered an occupational disease due to being a zoonotic infectious disease, there are numerous cases in which the patient's history does not include animal contact or consumption of raw dairy products. In cases of bacterial orchitis that do not respond to standard treatments, and in cases with spondylodiscitis, spondylitis, sacroiliitis, and arthritis, the Brucella Rose Bengal test should definitely be requested as a screening test. Treatment is lengthy and requires combination antibiotic therapies. Despite early diagnosis and combination antibiotic treatments, complications and permanent sequelae can occur.
