THE IMPACT OF PANDEMIC-ORIENTED DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION ON PERMANENT LEARNING MODELS IN MUSIC EDUCATION: A DESCRIPTIVE APPROACH
Abstract
Abstract: This study aims to examine the impact of the digital transformation that human
ity rapidly found itself in due to the limitations imposed on our lives by the globally im
pactful Covid-19 pandemic, specifically on the field of music education after the pan
demic conditions; to gain insight into the current situation illuminated by scientific re
search conducted in Türkiye and abroad; and to draw conclusions about the permanence
of mandatory digitalization in music education. The study utilized literature review and
descriptive analysis methods. The results of the research indicate an increase in studies
investigating and discussing the role of technology in music education after the pandemic,
both in Türkiye and internationally. It was found that similar experiences and challenges
were encountered at comparable levels in Turkey and internationally, and similar dis
cussions emerged regarding the effectiveness of distance education in music education.
The greatest challenges were encountered in applied areas requiring one-on-one inter
action between teacher and student, such as individual instrumental/vocal instruction and
ensemble playing/singing; in these areas, teachers developed individual solutions within
the limits of the resources available to them. Studies focusing on the challenges of the
pandemic period, along with research reflecting the motivation to carry these acquired
skills into the future, have allowed us to draw conclusions about the lasting impact of
technology on music education models.
