INVESTIGATING PRE-SERVICE TEACHERS' SELF CONFIDENCE LEVELS
Abstract
Abstract: This study aims to determine the levels of self-confidence among teac
her trainees and identify how sociodemographic variables affect these levels. A total of
305 participants enrolled in the College of Education at a public university took part in
the study. This descriptive study determined the self-confidence levels of teacher candi
dates and identified the effects of variables such as gender, department, type of high
school attended and parents’ educational status on these levels. Data collected using the
Self-Confidence Scale were analysed using parametric statistical techniques. The analy
sis revealed that the departments in which the teacher candidates were enrolled and their
mothers’ educational status had a statistically significant effect on their self-confidence
levels. However, it was determined that teacher candidates' self-confidence levels were
not significantly influenced by variables such as gender, the type of high school they gra
duated from, and their fathers' educational status. These findings highlight the impor
tance of environmental and individual factors in developing teacher candidates' sense of
self-confidence.
