ASSESSING THE IMPACT OF ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION ON FUTURE PRESCHOOL EDUCATORS: ATTITUDE SHIFTS AND INTENTIONS FOR PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE

Abstract

Abstract: Environmental education is a comprehensive process aimed at enhancing en vironmental sensitivity and fostering behavioral tendencies. Current literature indicates that most studies in this field focus primarily on attitude levels; however, attitudes do not consistently translate into action, and professional implementation intentions remain un der-researched. This study aims to investigate the impact of the Environmental Education course on pre-service preschool teachers’ environmental attitudes and professional imp lementation intentions. A quantitative research method with a non-equivalent control group post-test design was employed. The study group consisted of 80 pre-service teac hers in a Preschool Education program, comprising fourth-year students who had comp leted the course (43 participants) and third-year students who had not yet taken the co urse (37 participants). Data were collected using the Attitude Scale Towards Environ mental Issues and items measuring pedagogical implementation intentions, and analyzed via Jamovi statistical software. Findings indicated no statistically significant difference in general attitude scores between the groups; however, professional implementation in tention scores were significantly higher for those who completed the course. Further more, active involvement in non-governmental organizations (NGOs) was identified as the most significant predictor for both variables. The results demonstrate that the impact of the course manifests in concrete professional actions informed by pedagogical knowledge rather than merely abstract affective interest.
