SPİRİT REPRESENTATİVES OF SURREALİZM: WOMEN PURSUE SURREALIST ADVENTURES
Abstract
The writing of art history came from ignoring the works of female
artists under the rule of patriarchal sovereignty. The purpose of feminist art
history research is to investigate the reasons why women are not involved in
history, as well as to investigate whether women are reflected in art works as
a universal fiction or category. The surrealist art movement ignore women as
both artists, and the concepts of women and children are also fictional objects
of their works. Hence, sociological and psychological factors have been taken
into consideration while addressing the passive position of the woman in the
surrealist movement. The works performed by surrealist female artists are
called feminist art and are considered in this context. From here it is
emphasized the reasons why women who come from ignorance in art history do not
take part in the writing of history, although they work actively with men in
the surrealist movement. The fact that women are consenting to be in a passive
position in the surrealist movement, their work under the control of male
artists, or their preference to be seen
as lovers constitute the basis for a questionable inquiry that can be read as a
'visibility policy' in an indirect and different way. The aim of the research
is to examine female artists who have not been included in the Surrealist
movement as merely peer, but also in the production of surrealist art, and to
reveal the causes of their lost voices. To this end, it has been suggested that
women artists do not want to be called "feminist", and this
assumption has been made.
