Abstract
Cartoons have become a phenomenon where children have fun and spend time today. Cartoons broadcasted only at certain times in the past years have turned into a big industry today, and dozens of channels have appeared that only cartoons were broadcast. Each of the cartoons prepared for broadcast has various features according to the audience it addresses and can transfer information in accordance with the purpose of preparation. Accordingly, cartoons that are not only used as entertainment tools today; it acts as a tool for the transfer of cultural, historical and sociological values of a society. It is frequently preferred to use cartoons as a tool for children who cannot read or write at the point of culture and value transfer. For children who can read and write, the perspective of cartoons has changed positively in recent years due to the insufficient feedback of literary texts and low activity threshold compared to visual elements. In this study, Istanbul Guardians cartoon was chosen as the subject of research, and the information transfer in this cartoon was tried to be determined and the instructional side of the cartoon was determined. In the light of the results to be obtained, the teaching of cartoons in the general sense and the teaching of historical information in the special sense have been chosen as research subjects and in the light of the findings to be obtained, the success level of this teaching activity will be evaluated. This qualitative research has been selected as the research scope of the first 10 episodes of the cartoon named “Istanbul Guards” broadcasted on TRT CHILDREN channel, documentary scanning in data collection and content analysis in data analysis. In order to understand the principle of relativity to the child, 100 students attending the 6th grade at Gültepe Imam Hatip Secondary School were watched in the first 10 parts of the cartoon, and the answers to the prepared questions helped in the correct interpretation of the findings.
