A cross-sectional study on the February 6 earthquake

Abstract

INTRODUCTİON AND PURPOSE: Earthquakes are one of the most common and destructive natural disasters in the world. The Kahramanmaraş earthquake that occurred in Turkey on February 6, 2023 and affected many provinces caused the death of more than 50,000 people. It was not limited to the earthquake area, but affected the entire country materially and spiritually. The aim of our study is to analyze earthquake victims who applied to the emergency room for any reason after the earthquake on February 6 in our city, which is kilometers away from the disaster area.
MATERİALS AND METHODS: In our study, the records of 275 earthquake victims who were affected by the February 6, 2023 earthquake and came to our hospital emergency department within 1 year were retrospectively examined.
RESULTS: Of the 275 patients who applied to our hospital emergency department, 148 (53.8%) were female and the mean age was 41.7±18.2. 88 (32.0%) of the patients were diagnosed with respiratory tract infection. It was observed that 225 patients were discharged and 50 patients were hospitalized. It was determined that patients who came for trauma were hospitalized more than patients who came for other reasons.
CONCLUSİON: Although our city is not in the earthquake zone, it is seen in the applications made to the emergency department of our hospital that there are a significant number of earthquake victims suffering from trauma and/or other reasons. The earthquake disaster was not limited to the earthquake region.

Abstract

GİRİŞ VE AMAÇ: Deprem, dünya genelinde en yaygın gerçekleşen ve tahrip edici gücü en büyük olan doğal felaketlerden biridir. 06 Şubat 2023’de Türkiye’de gerçekleşen ve birçok ili etkileyen Kahramanmaraş depremi 50.000’den fazla kişinin ölümüne neden olmuştur. Sadece deprem bölgesiyle sınırlı kalmamış bütün ülkeyi maddi ve manevi olarak etkilemiştir. Çalışmamızın amacı, afet bölgesinden kilometrelerce uzakta bulunan şehrimizde, 6 Şubatta yaşanan deprem sonrasında, acil servise herhangi bir nedenle başvuru yapan depremzede hastaları analiz etmektir.
GEREÇ VE YÖNTEM: Çalışmamızda, 06 Şubat 2023 depreminden etkilenen ve 1 yıl içinde hastanemiz acil servisine gelen toplam 275 depremzede hastanın kayıtları retrospektif olarak incelendi.
BULGULAR: Hastanemiz acil servise başvuran 275 hastanın 148 (%53.8)’inin kadın, ortalama yaşın 41.7±18.2 tespit edildi. Hastaların 88 (%32.0)’i solunum yolu enfeksiyonu tanısı almıştı. 225 hasta taburcu olurken 50 hastanın yatış ile sonuçlandığı görüldü. Travma nedenli gelen hastalara diğer nedenlerden gelen hastalara göre daha çok yatış verildiği saptandı.
SONUÇ: İlimiz deprem bölgesinde olmamasına rağmen, hastanemiz acil servisine yapılan başvurularda görülmektedir ki travma ve/veya diğer sebeplerden gelen depremzede hastalar azımsanamayacak sayıdadır. Deprem afeti sadece deprem bölgesi ile sınırlı kalmamıştır.
