WATER PRICING AS A DEMAND MANAGEMENT OPTION: DILEMMAS, CHALLENGES AND PROSPECTS

Year 2022, Volume: 1 Issue: 5, 55 - 73, 20.06.2022

Abstract

This study starts with the economic policy of water, then the most basic difficulties encountered in water pricing (disputes about the aims of water pricing and tariff design, being a political and political process full of debates, the tariff determination process is generally not transparent, the difficulty of understanding water tariffs for consumers, etc.) continues with studies on both the theory and applications of water pricing. Finally, it concludes with recommendations within the framework of the principles and logic of water pricing.

The essence of the study focus on, if the improvement and dissemination of pricing services, be the only solution for effective use of water resources and protection of the environment ? It gives perspective to the question. While doing this, it is to guide the "economic dimension" of water, "right to water" and "economic value of water" at the point of whether water is a right or a need.
Related to the subject, it is expected to make two main contributions regarding both theory and practice of water pricing. (i) provide an overview of the economics of water pricing; (ii) illustrates the key dimensions and challenges of water pricing
The center of the study is to summarize important important steps for policy makers seeking effective and efficient water pricing.
