Metastabil Eşik: Üretken Yapay Zekâ Koşullarında Görüntünün Güvenilirliği

Abstract

Üretken yapay zekâ (GenAI) ile üretilen görüntüler, gerçeğe benzerlik ölçütünden çok, görüntünün güvenilirliği sorununu öne çıkarır. Bu çalışma, görsel gerçekliği tekil bir doğru/yanlış tartışmasına indirgemeden; görüntü referansının üretim aşamaları içinde hangi eşiklerde çözüldüğünü, teknik bireyleşme ve döngüsel öteyetaşınım (transduction) süreçleri üzerinden tartışır. Çalışmanın odağında, Gilbert Simondon’un metastabilite düşüncesinden yola çıkılarak yazar tarafından bizzat türetilen “metastabil eşik” kavramı yer alır; bu özgün kavram, “Dialogue with AI” (DIWAI) projesindeki döngüsel üretim içinde küçük sapmaların ve glitch'in görüntünün statüsünü kırdığı kritik anları adlandırmak için analitik bir araç olarak kullanılmıştır. Pratiğe dayalı araştırma kapsamında üç üretim yöntemi incelenmiştir. Üç yöntemin ortak başlangıcı, kâğıt yüzeyinde yakma yoluyla oluşturulan yanık izidir. Yanık, bu çalışmada bir kanıt değil; yüzeyi işaretleyen ve karartan, okunurluğu hem mümkün kılan hem de bozan bir etken olarak ele alınmaktadır. Bulgular, Yöntem 1’de donanım sapmalarının üretimin kurucu bir faktörüne dönüştüğünü; Yöntem 2’de referans görselin her döngüde çözülerek silikleştiğini; Yöntem 3’te ise yüzey doygunluğu içinde referansın ayırt edilemez hâle geldiğini göstermektedir. Bu nedenle makale, görüntünün güvenilirliğini üretim protokolü içinde yeniden kuran bir model önermekten ziyade, güven arayışının neden sürekli karşılıksız kaldığını gösterir. Üretim döngüsü ile sabit bir köken veya güvenilir bir referans ortaya çıkmaz; geriye kalan, yalnızca izler, sapmalar ve kalıntılardır.

Metastable Threshold: The Reliability of Images Under the Conditions of Generative Artificial Intelligence

Abstract

Images produced with generative artificial intelligence (GenAI) foreground the problem of image reliability. Rather than reducing reality to a binary of true and false, this study examines the thresholds at which image reference dissolves through technical individuation and transduction. At the center of the study is the concept of the “metastable threshold,” derived from Gilbert Simondon’s notion of metastability and coined by the researcher within the scope of this work. The concept is used as an analytical tool to identify moments in the process of the Dialogue with AI (DIWAI) project, where deviations and glitch disrupt the image. Within a practice-based framework, three production methods were examined. Three methods begin with burn marks on paper. The burn mark is treated not as evidence, but as an agent that marks and darkens the surface, enabling and obstructing legibility. Findings show that in Method 1, hardware deviations become a factor of production; in Method 2, the reference image dissolves through each cycle; and in Method 3, the reference becomes indistinguishable under surface saturation. Thus, the article exposes why the search for reliability remains unanswered. No fixed origin or reference emerges through the production cycle; what remains are traces, deviations, and residues.
