Determination Of Opinions And Knowledge Level Of Secondary And High School Teachers Regarding Scientific Research And Activity Research Methods

Abstract

This research is the multi-state study which aims to determine opinions and knowledge levels of secondary and high school teachers regarding scientific research and activity research method. As sampling group of the study, 96 teachers were selected who actively participated in education activities in the academic year of 2016-2017. Maximum variation sampling, one of the purposeful samplings, was employed in selection of teacher subjects. In the study, a combined analysis method was utilized on collected quantitative and qualitative study data. Semistructured standard interview form composed of 5 open-ended questions was used in data collection process. Teachers’ answers were investigated through content analysis to yield relevant tables and column graphs. As a result of the study, it was seen that about 55% of teachers do not conduct any scientific research; about 50% do not conduct any research on their schools and classroom; about 63% has not any knowledge on activity research method; about 75% think that activity research method will contribute into their professionalism. Moreover, answers regarding the factors that could motivate teachers to use this research method were received from the participants
