Abstract

This experimental study aimed to examine the effect of career counselling program developed on the basis of Cognitive Information Processing approach on decision making skills of eighth grade students. The participants were eighth grade students from an elementary school in Ankara. The vocational decision making program based on the Cognitive Information Processing approach was applied as the treatment to experimental group. To investigate the effectiveness of the treatment the Vocational Decision Inventory was utilized as a measurement tool. This study adopts a “pre-test/post-test” experimental design with a control group. Repeated measures ANOVA test was performed to measure the effect of intervention on experimental group. As a result of the analysis, it was found that the experimental group participating in the career counselling program resulted in a statistically significant decrease in the participating students’ level of career uncertainty. Therefore, it is concluded that the vocational decision making program based on the Cognitive Information Processing approach is effective in increasing the level of vocational decision making of the eighth grade students
