The Critical Edition of Nuqūd al-surar sharh ‘Uqūd al-durar fī mā yuftā bih min aqwāl al-Imām Zufar by Abdulghanī b. Ismā‘īl al-Nablusī
Abstract
This paper is a critical edition of Nuqūd al-surar sharh ‘Uqūd al-durar fī mā yuftā bih min aqwāl al-Imām Zufar by Abdulghanī b. Ismā‘īl al-Nablusī (d. 1143/1731) who dealt with unanimous legal opinions (muftā bih) of Imam Zufar, one of the leading interpreters of Islamic law in the school of Hanafiyya. Al-Nablusī’s work, a commentary on the 31-couplet-poetic treatise of al-Hamawī (d. 1098/1687), has a significant place among independent studies about Imām Zufar. Nuqūd al-surar can be identified as the most comprehensive work about the opinions of Imām Zufar, despite the fact that they are partially found in the diverse literature of Hanafī law and doctrine. While al-Hamawī mentioned in his treatise fifteen legal issues solved by Zufar’s opinions, al-Nablusī increased them into seventeen. However, al-Nablusī opposed to al-Hamawī in some points and criticized some of what al-Hamawī said “muftā bih”.
