Abstract

Studies which analyze the relationship between personality and work performance have been conducted frequently in the field of industrial and organizational psychology. Regarding the lack of research in this area in our country, the five factor model effects on work performance was investigated with a group of 177 participants from a company working in the finance sector. The main purpose of this study is to contribute to the current literature by observing the relationship between work performance and personality attributes. In order to measure the personality attributes of the participants, the NEO Five factor Inventory developed by Costa and McCrae (1985) was used. (N=177). Moreover, for the measurement of the work performances of the employees, the Job Performance Scale which was developed by Yelboga (2003) was used. Pearson correlation coefficients were calculated to evaluate the relationships among the variables used in the study and a multiple regression analysis was conducted to determine how job performance influences the personality attributes (Extraversion, Emotional stability, Openness, Agreeableness and Conscientiousness). In addition to these variables, standardized regression coefficients of sex, age, seniority and education level were also included into the regression analysis in the order of their magnitudes. The result of this analysis shows that sex, age, seniority, education level and personality attributes explain the 16, 3 % of the variance in job performance of the employees (p<0, 01).
