Particle Swarm Optimization Based Pi-Controller Design to Load-Frequency Control of a Two Area Reheat Thermal Power System

Abstract

In this study, the gains of PI controller which is used for load-frequency control in a two area reheat thermal power system are tuned with the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). Tuning of the controller gains is taken up an optimization problem, and the new cost function is derived to reach to goal. The results which are obtained are compared with the literature, and it is observed that the dynamic response of the system is got better with proposed self-tuning PSO-PI controller
