Marian Sürgünleri: I. Mary Döneminde İngiltere'den Kıta Avrupası'na Göç Hikayesi

Abstract

İngiltere VIII. Henry döneminde (1509-1547) Protestan reformasyon sürecine girmiş, bu süreç VI. Edward döneminde (1547-1553) kararlılıkla sürdürülmüştür. VI. Edward’tan sonra tahta çıkan I. Mary (1553-1558) ise İngiltere’de Katolisizmi restore etmeye çalışmış, halefi I. Elizabeth döneminde (1558-1603) İngiltere Protestan reformasyon sürecine tekrar dönmüştür. Bu süreçler İngiltere’yi 16. yüzyılda Katolisizmden Protestanlığa, Protestanlıktan Katolisizme, Katolisizmden tekrar Protestanlığa dönen tek Avrupa ülkesi yapmıştır. İngiltere’de Protestan reformasyon sürecine verilen kısa bir ara olarak tanımlanabilecek I. Mary’nin hükümranlığında bir grup Protestan ülkeyi terk ederek Kıta Avrupası’na göç etmiştir. Marian sürgünleri olarak adlandırılan bu Protestanlar İngiltere tarihine monarka karşı devrimci düşüncenin öncüleri olarak damga vurmuş ve devrimci fikirlerinin kapsamlı etkisi sonraki yüzyılda hissedilmiştir. Bu makalenin amacı İngiltere’deki Protestanların I. Mary’nin ülkede Katolisizmi restore etme çabasına verdikleri tepkiyi değerlendirmek ve Kıta Avrupası’na göç eden Protestanların neden ve nasıl monarka karşı devrimci düşüncenin öncüleri olduklarını açıklamaktır.
