Women and Law in The Ottoman Society in 18th Century: Some Evaluations on The Right Searching Processes of Women in Amid Court
Abstract
Women, like many social community that have been
pushed outside the public sphere, have not found enough place in traditional
history writing. Because, traditional history writing has developed around the
subject of manuscripts which is the subject of man's life practices. While male
domination in the public sphere has shown to be a man specific area, it has
represented the woman in a position that has not caused change in past events.
Similarly, women were not seen in history books for a long time when men were
accepted as subjects in historical events in the early examples of Ottoman
history writing. Especially, after the intersection of feminist theory with
social history studies, this perception has been broken and many researchers
have directed to the history of women. In this study, Ottoman court records
will be examined and women will be tried to explain the struggle for rights in
the court and the appearance of the Ottoman woman in the period.
