Metropolitan Municipalities and Social Services: A Review on the Kocaeli Metropolitan Municipality
Abstract
Social service discipline is a whole of systematic applications and paradigms, handling individual’s problems and aiming to increase social welfare in order to eliminate social deprivations. For the realization of social service activities, various public institutions take actions. One of these public intitutions is local administration. In our country, one of the most powerful local administration structures is undoubtedly “Metropolitan Municipality”. In the study, we have investigated problems concerning the social service area, which is involved in the legislation regarding metropolitan municipalities, and the applicability of social service activities. In order to obtain more perceptible data, we have interviewed the experts working within the body of the Kocaeli Metropoliton Municipality. According to the results of the study; it is realized that important functions have been carried out. It is also crucial to increase the rate of specialist employment, to create moral support processes for the stuff and to increase the coordination among institutions.
