Abstract
Why has Algirdas Julien Greimas eluded the Turkish translators’ pen? Apart
from De l’İmperfection [On imperfection], the great work of Greimas awaits
translation. Perhaps his first book, Sémantique structurale. [Structural Semantics: An Attempt at Method], which he wrote on his return from Turkey, would be
a good start. . This article examines the problems which would arise in the event
of a translation of this book into the Turkish language. Firstly, the problem of terminology is addressed, given that there are no corresponding words established in
Turkish for most semiotic terms. Secondly, what qualifications would be required
of a potential translator with the temerity to make this attempt?
