Abstract
One of the main arguments that characterizes contemporary political phiosophy is about the end of the politics. Under this claim lies the crisis of the representation. In other words, the relation between “representative” and “represented” is not being con-sidered as linear and necessary as the liberal tradition argued. In this context, what democracy is and what democracy ought to be, became again one of the main topic of discussion. Jacques Ranciére, as many other contemporary scholars do, rejects the rumours about the end of the politics and defines over again the differences between “political”, “polis” and “politics” around the concept of “democracy”. Defining the dif-ferences between such concepts, Ranciére tries to find out new possibilities for politics today. In this paper, Ranciére’s distinguished contributions to the contemporary political philosophy, as well as to the contemporary political debates, will be discussed within the context of his understanding of democracy.

Son dönem siyaset felsefesini karakterize eden temel
savlardan biri, “siyasetin sonu” iddiasıdır. Bu iddianın altındaysa temsil
krizi yatmaktadır. Bir başka deyişle “temsil eden” ile “temsil edilen”
arasındaki ilişki, liberal geleneğin savuna geldiği gibi doğrusal ve zorunlu
değildir. Bu bağlamda demokrasinin ne olduğu ve ne olması gerektiği yeni-den
tartışmalı hale gelmiştir. Jacques
Ranciére bir çok başka çağdaş düşünür gibi siya-setin sonu söylentilerine karşı
çıkarak “siyasal”, “polis” ve “siyaset” arasındaki ayrımları “demokrasi”
kavramı etrafında yeniden tanımlayarak siyasetin günümüzdeki olanağını ortaya
koymuştur. Bu çalışmada Ranciére’in demokrasi anlayışı bağlamında filozofun
siyaset felsefesinin özgünlüğü ve günümüz problemlerine sunduğu katkılar
tartışılacaktır.
