CHOLERA OUTBREAK iN 1892-1895, RUMELiA LANDS OF OTTOMAN STATE
Cholera of India origin, the most fatal disease of the 19th century, was first seen in Ottoman lands in 1822. Entering the Ottoman lands through Persian Gulf disease was first seen in Rumelia at the end of 1848, in Edirne, iskodra, Tırhala. Against the disease which appeared in Iran in the year 1892 and spread to Europe, Ottoman State appointed Zibifçe in Kosova province and Cisrimustafapaşa in Edirne for people coming from Europe via land roads as quarantine Centers. Despite the precautions taken, cholera was seen in Istanbul in
1893. Then, despite precautions it spread to Edirne. Almost all discases between the years 1892-1895 were sem in Edirne province mostly, and Selanik within small range. Large and small epidemics confinued to be seen until end of the year
1894. Thanks to drastic measures spread of epidemics from Edirne to Istanbul was prevented.
