THE EFFECT OF EURO-DOLLAR PARITY ON THE EXPORT OF FREE TRADE ZONES SITED IN TURKEY: AN ECONOMETRIC ANALYSIS
Abstract
Free trade zones, freed partly or fully from current legal regulations on economic relations, are aimed to attract foreign direct investment, boost export or transfer technology. Today, 19 free trade zones are operating in Turkey, depending on No 3218: Free Trade Zones Acts. Companies operating in free trade zones import raw materials mostly from Turkey, paid in US Dollar and export finished product mostly to European Union countries in Euro.
In this work, it is examined changes in volume of trade of free trade zones in Turkey through changes Euro / Dollar parity with quarterly data from 2002 to 2016. Results have shown that Euro/Dolar affects real export of free trade zones located in Turkey, in the same way.
