ANTIMICROBIAL ACTMTY OF ARTEMISIA SPECIES GROWING IN TURIUEY

Abstract

The antimicrobial activity of the plant extracts of Turkish Artemisia L. and of essential oils isolated from these species were investigated. A. annzta L., A. aral-atica Krasch. extracts had effect on Staphylococcrts aztreris. Mycobacterirtnr snregnzatis and Candida albicans; A. chanraenlelifolia Vill., A. abrota- ~zrtnr L. had effect on M. snreplatis. C. albicans whereas A. scoparia 'Waldst. et Kit. had effect only on S. aztreus strain. Most of the essential oils had strong inhibitory effect on C. albica~zs, M. snregnratis and S. aureus. Ln constrast only A. scoparia Waldst. et Kit. essential oil showed inhibitory effect 011 Pseztdonwnas arireginosa strain.

Abstract

Tiirkiye'de yetigen Artenzisia tiirlerinden elde edilen ekstrelerin ve uqucu yaglann antimikrobiyal etkinligi incelenrnigtir. A. anrzrta L., A. arar-atica Krasch. ekstreleri Staphylococc~is aweus, M~~cobacteriunr snzegmatis ve Carzdida albicalzs'a; A. chanraenzelifolia Vill. A. abr-otalzzinz L. Mycobacteriunz snregniatis, Caizdida albicarzs'a etki yapmlgbr. Uqucu yaglann qogu Calzdida albicalzs, Mycobactel-inn1 sniegnlatis ve Staphylococcrrs aur-erts'a giiqlii inhibitor etkinlik gostermigtir. Pseltdonlonas aeiugiizosa'ya sadece A. scoparia'da~ elde edilen uqucu yag antimikrobiyal etki yapmgtir.
