Abstract

Background & Aims: Health camps are vital in addressing healthcare disparities by providing pharma ceutical care services, particularly in underserved areas. This study evaluated the impact of pharmacy led health camps conducted in Belagavi District, Karnataka, focusing on improving healthcare access and awareness. The aim of this study was to assess the role and outcomes of pharmacy led health camps to promote health awareness and educate on communicable and noncommunicable diseases.

Methods: Pharmacy led health camps were conducted in five rural locations in the Belagavi District: Athani, Sambra, Chikkodi, Ghataprabha, and Savadatti. Pharmaceutical care services included patient counselling, adverse drug reactions (ADR) monitoring, drug interaction checks, and essential medication dispensing. Data on patient demographics, prevalent health conditions, and feedback were analyzed descriptively.

Results: A total of 1,550 patients attended the camps, with 61.55% females and 46.2% geriatrics. Common conditions included musculoskeletal (34.12%) and gastrointestinal disorders (27.3%). Over 11,000 medications, such as paracetamol (22.9%) and pantoprazole (12.5%), were dispensed. Sixtyfive drug drug interactions were identified and managed using Micromedex Solutions. Patient satisfaction was high for drug dispensing (61.5%) and staff professionalism (64.3%), while areas for improvement included counselling sessions (42.1% satisfaction) and disease awareness activities (52.6% satisfaction).

Conclusion: Pharmacy led health camps significantly improved access to healthcare, medication safety, and health education in the underserved areas of the Belagavi District. These findings advocate for regular health camps to enhance rural healthcare delivery and empower communities.
