Choices of death place in terminal stage cancer patients

Year 2008, Volume: 23 Issue: 1, 34 - 44, 01.02.2008

Abstract

For cancer patients and their caregivers in reaching the period of dying in peace and dignity, the choice of place of death is important in developing the quality of life during dying period and even the quality of dying. In this review, the choices of place of death of cancer patients and the factors that effect these choices is discussed. It is expected that this study will make a contribution to health policy makers and practitoners in the process of developing new and important models like hospice and home care and to palliative care team members and care givers who prepare the care plan to improve the quality of life of the patients.

Terminal dönemdeki kanser hastalarının ölüm yeri tercihleri

Year 2008, Volume: 23 Issue: 1, 34 - 44, 01.02.2008

Abstract

Terminal dönem kanser hastalarının ölüme huzur ve saygınlık içinde ulaşması sürecinde hasta ve hasta yakınlarının yapacağı ölüm yeri tercihi, ölüm zamanındaki yaşam kalitesini hatta ölümün kalitesini geliştirmesi açısından önemlidir. Gözden geçirme niteliğindeki bu çalışmada, terminal dönemdeki kanser hastalarının ölüm yeri tercihlerinin neler olabileceği ve bu tercihlere etkide bulunan bazı faktörler tartışıldı. Çalışmanın ülkemizde hospis, evde bakım gibi yeni ve önemli hizmet modellerinin oluşturulması sürecinde sağlık politikacı ve uygulayıcılarına ayrıca hastanın yaşam kalitesini yükseltmeyi amaçlayan bakım planlarını hazırlayan palyatif bakım ekibine ve hasta yakınlarına katkı getireceği düşünülmektedir.
