The Predictors And Role Of Treatment Motivation In Eating Disorders

Year 2016, Volume: 36 Issue: 1, 41 - 64, 13.10.2016

Abstract

Eating Disorders (ED) are one of the psychiatric problems that increasingly become
prevalent and include serious health risks. Low treatment motivation is a common and
prominent factor in the progress of ED and lately became the focus of many researches.
Therefore evaluating the pa
tients’treatment motivation and related factors before planning
the treatment modality increase the efficiency of treatment. However studies including
these factors are rare.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the relations between treatment motivation symptom
severity, body image and depression. The study was conducted with 75 ED women with
using; SCID-I, Eating Disorders Examination Questionnaire, Beck Depression Inventory,
Photographic Figure Rating Scale, Anorexia Nervosa Stages of Change Questionnaire and
Bulimia Nervosa Stages of Change Questionnaire.

According to the results of this study, with the consistence of previous studies; increasing
levels of eating disorders symptom severity, depression, body dissatisfaction were related
with decreasing levels of treatment motivation in the patients with ED. The best predictor
of treatment motivation was eating disorder symptom severity.

These results suggest the value of evaluating the level of treatment motivation and
related factors when planning ED treatment models focusing on symptom severity and
body dissatisfaction.

Yeme Bozukluklarında Tedavi Motivasyonu ve Yordayıcıları

Year 2016, Volume: 36 Issue: 1, 41 - 64, 13.10.2016

Abstract

ile; SCID-I, Yeme Bozukluğunu Değerlendirme Ölçeği, Beck Depresyon Ölçeği, Kadınlar
