İç Grup (Biz) Ve Dış Grup (Onlar) Bağlamında Fransız İntelligentsia Örneği

Year 2016, Issue: 54, 333 - 350, 20.12.2016

Abstract

IN GROUP (WE) AND OTHER GROUP (THEY) IN THE CONTEXT OF THE FRENCH INTELLIGENTSIA

Year 2016, Issue: 54, 333 - 350, 20.12.2016

Abstract

This
study is carried out to put forward with examples the mentality of
"us" versus "them", which is based on the French
intelligentsia's opposition of Islam and Muslim, departing from the theory of
"in-groups" and "out-groups” posed by Sumner. It is seen that
mainly the media, politics and intellectuals are in efforts to make the Muslims
the "others" of France in line with the understanding of foreign
groups in the country. In this way, there appears a discrimination between the
"inner culture" bound to the Christian-Jewish culture and values
represented by them and the "outer group" consisting of Muslims that
adopts the Oriental culture, which is underdeveloped due to Islam. The inner
group's perception of the outer group is through prejudice and stereotypes from
which discrimination arises.
