Having been situated in the center of the Süleymaniye neighbourhood in the Eski Gümüşhane/Old City, Süleymaniye/Sultan Suleiman Mosque was built by the order of Sultan Suleiman in the 16th century. The Eski Gümüşhane/old city is located 4 kilometres away from the new city and this historical city is spreading out on a sloping surface of 1400-1500 m altitude. This city was founded here because of the presence of silver mines around this district. According to the archival documents the Suleiman Mosque was rebuilt at the end of the 19th century and was restorated several times until today.
In this paper, the Süleymaniye/Sultan Suleiman Mosque in Eski Gümüşhane, its restoration and reconstruction process are tried to be presented using some documents kept in the Ottoman State Archive.
