ETHICAL PRINCEPLES AND RULES

   ETHICAL PRINCEPLES AND RULES

TMJOT acknowledges personal honor, personal identity, and professional dignity of each member of the TMJOT community as well as the academic dignity of the academic community and believes that academic ethical principles are the most requisite parts which encompasses the TMJOT community. Academic ethical principles are founded on the following five basic values:

a. Morality,

b. Trust,

c. Justice,

d. Respect,

e. Responsibility.

TMJOT believes that these principles are binding in each phase of the scientific and artistic activities of any kind (e.g., research, publication, creative production and presentation).

1. The Principle of Being Scientific: Data is gathered through scientific methods. During the process of evaluation and interpretation of data and obtaining theoretical outcomes, researcher does not deviate from scientific methods and procedures or change the outcomes. Researcher cannot present any research findings that have not been obtained.

2. The Principle of Nonmaleficence: The Act of Respect for “the Living” and Protection of the “Participants” in Scientific Research: During research, it is essential not to harm the subjects, participants, and respondents or any natural or cultural assets that are the core of creative activity or research. The participants and respondents should directly be informed of the possible risks and the researcher/s should ensure that the decision of participation is taken independently as required by the principle of the informed consent. The participants should be advised that it will be shared information. Thus, the contents and confidentiality of the data should be disclosed to the participants.

3.The Principle of Freedom to Not Joining the Research: Researchers have the right not to participate in any research or to acknowledge any statement which may lead to harmful outcomes or practices that they do not approve, according to their own individual evidence. No researcher can be forced to support, defend, vocalize or declare any public opinion, judgement or action.

4.The Principle of Academic Freedom of Research: Unless a misconduct in the ethical principles specified in these regulations occurs, research or creative work cannot be interfered or prevented. On the contrary, researchers and artists will be responsive to TMJOT's budget implementation principles as well as responsible regarding the issues which require local and global sensitivity while determining research topics and methods.

Basic Principles of Publication Ethics

1. Findings of any scientific research are published with the inclusion of the names of all participants who actually carried out the research. Names of those individuals who have not been actively involved in design, planning, implementation and publication stages are not or to be included in the authors section.

2. Scientific publications which refer to prior published or unpublished work should cite the source in question, in accordance with the scientific publication rules. Except universal scientific theories, mathematical theorems and proofs, neither the translation nor the original version of any scientific work can be published as a whole or partially without permission or citing the main source.

3. Names of the institutions or individuals who provide active support in the research are explicitly referred to in the publications. In this respect, the name of the institution where most of the research has been carried out should be referred to even if the researcher is no longer current member.
