Antimicrobial Sensitivity of Campylobacter jejuni Poultry Isolates from the Republic of Bulgaria

Antimicrobial Sensitivity of Campylobacter jejuni Poultry Isolates from the Republic of Bulgaria

Abstract

ABSTRACT

A total of 110 caecal samples were collected from broiler chickens originating from 6 small poultry farms in Bulgaria during the first half of 2009, and (45) Campylobacter jejuni strains were isolated. Twenty four (53.3%) of the C. jejuni isolates were determined as resistant to several antibiotics. The highest percentage of resistance was observed against (tetracycline) - 22.2%, (enrofloxacin) - 13.4% and (ampicillin) - 11.1%. Two strains (4.4%) were resistant to erythromycin. The distribution of isolates on the basis of Minimal Inhibition Concentration revealed the highest value of 64 Î¼g/ml to tetracycline in one of the strains. Four isolates resistant against ampicillin were with MIC of 32 Î¼g/ml, and another one – with MIC 16 Î¼g/ml.

ÖZET

BULGARİSTAN'DA KANATLI KÖKENLI CAMPYLOBACTER JEJUNİ İZOLATLARININ ANTİBİYOTİK DUYARLILIKLARI

2009 yılının ilk yarısında Bulgaristan'da 6 farklı küçük tavuk çiftliğinde bulunan etlik piliçlerden toplam 110 sekum örneği toplandı ve 45 adet Campylobacter jejuni suşu izole edildi. C. jejuni izolatlarının yirmi dördünün (%53,3) çeşitli antibiyotiklere karşı dirençli olduğu belirlendi. Yüksek oranlarda tetrasiklin (%22,2), enrofloksasin(%13,4) ve ampisilin (%11,1)'e karşı dirençlilik saptandı. İki suş (%4,4) eritromisine dirençli bulundu. Minimum inhibisyon konsantrasyonuna bağlı olarak, izole edilen suşların tetrasikline karşı en yüksek değerinin 64 Î¼g/ml olduğu belirlendi. Ampisiline dirençli dört izolatın MİK değeri 32 Î¼g/ml ve birinin MİK değeri 16 Î¼g/ml olarak saptandı.
