Abstract

In this essay, you will find an account of my introduction to the esteemed author and journalist, Hıfzı Topuz, and the collaborative process that led to the creation of our joint work, “Contemporary Turkish Press History.” This particular piece stands as Hıfzı Topuz’s final contribution to literature and represents my inaugural foray into the world of publishing. Our paths intersected at the Communication Research Association ILAD, and from that point onward, our trajectories never diverged. Collaborative projects within both ILAD and the Turkish Journalists Association (TGC) further solidified our friendship. In fact, towards his later years, I might have been the sole companion with whom he engaged. Hıfzı Topuz was undeniably one of the rare intellectual figures nurtured by this country. Despite the wisdom reflected in his engaging conversations, he remained remarkably humble. He embodied the symbols of humility and wisdom, portraying a love-filled heart. He never lost his hope and zest for life. Initially as a journalist and later as an author, Hıfzı Topuz stood as one of the venerable names in our profession. His revolutionary stance, advocacy for labor and equality, libertarian perspective, unwavering belief in the independence of news, and his commitment to journalism education will be enduringly remembered. He will always be commemorated with respect and affection.

BENİM HIFZI ABİM

Abstract

Bu yazıda, Hıfzı Topuz Hoca ile tanışma dönemimiz ve beraber yazdığımız “Yakın Dönem Türk Basın Tarihi” kitabının yazılış sürecini bulacaksınız. Yakın Dönem Türk Basın Tarihi, Hıfzı Abi’nin son, benim ise ilk kitabım oldu. İletişim Araştırmaları Derneği İLAD’da kesişen yolumuz bir daha hiç ayrılmadı. Hem İLAD hem de Türkiye Gazeteciler Cemiyeti’ndeki ortak çalışmalarımız dostluğumuzu daha da güçlendirdi. Öyle ki son dönemlerinde kendisi ile görüşen belki de tek dostuydum. Hıfzı Abi, bu ülkenin yetiştirdiği ender entelektüel insanlarındandı. Hoş sohbetine yansıyan bilgeliğinin yanı sıra bir o kadar da mütevazıydı. Tevazu ve bilgeliğin simgesiydi. Yüreği sevgi dolu bir aşk insanıydı.
Umudunu ve yaşama sevincini hiç yitirmedi. Önce gazeteci sonra da yazar olarak Hıfzı Topuz, mesleğimizin duayen isimlerindendi. Devrimci, emekten ve eşitlikten yana olan tavrı, özgürlükçü bakış açısı, haberin bağımsızlığına olan inancı, gazetecilik eğitimine verdiği önem ile unutulmayacak ve hep saygı ve sevgiyle anılacaktır.
