Abstract

Abstract

Retrospective evaluation of cardiac data is essential for the prevention and treatment of cardiac diseases. In this way, correct steps can be taken in diagnosis. In this study, it was aimed to retrospectively evaluate the data of 562 dogs brought to Ondokuz Mayıs University Animal Hospital from various provinces of the Black Sea region and diagnosed with cardiac diseases. Clinical findings, electrocardiographic data, echocardiography and blood analysis were evaluated. 525 patients (93.41%) had acquired heart disease and 37 patients (6.59%) had congenital heart disease. The most common acquired heart disease in dogs was dilated cardiomyopathy and the most common congenital heart disease was patent ductus arteriosus. In addition, a total of 11614 dogs came to the Internal Medicine department between these years. Of these, 562 were diagnosed with cardiac disease. In other words, the prevalence of cardiac diseases in the Black Sea region was determined as 4.84%. With this study, it was concluded that clinical findings, physical examination and diagnostic practices should be evaluated together in the diagnosis of cardiac diseases.

Ethical Statement

This study was conducted by evaluating the records previously obtained within the scope of routine clinical processes and no additional interventions were made. Therefore, there is no need for ethics committee approval for this retrospective study. Also, the principles of animal welfare and data security were strictly adhered to during the research process. The study was conducted in accordance with the ethical standards of the relevant institution. In addition, all examinations and procedures were performed by the two authors named in the publication. Cases in which the two authors were not involved were not included in the study.
