1. General Principles
The Journal of Anatolian Geography acknowledges the growing role of generative AI tools in academic research and publication workflows. However, the use of such tools must be transparent, ethical, and must not compromise the originality, accuracy, or scholarly integrity of submitted work.
2. Responsibilities of Authors
Authorship: Under no circumstances can generative AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Bard, Claude) be listed as authors or co-authors. Authors are fully responsible for all content, including any parts generated with AI assistance.
Transparency and Disclosure: If AI tools are used during research design, writing, translation, language editing, or visualization (e.g., graph design), this must be disclosed clearly. The declaration should specify:
a) The name and version of the AI tool used.
b) The purpose and extent of AI assistance.
Where applicable, this information should appear in the Methods or Acknowledgements section.
3. Permitted Use Cases
AI tools may be used for:
a) Language editing and grammar correction (e.g., improving fluency).
b) Data visualization (e.g., chart design, spatial mapping).
c) Conceptual illustrations (e.g., flowcharts, diagrams).
d) Assistance in literature discovery (but not citation generation).
e) All AI-generated content must be reviewed and approved by the author(s).
4. Prohibited Use Cases
AI tools must not be used for:
a) Generating substantial sections of the article (e.g., abstract, introduction, results, discussion).
b) Fabricating or interpreting scientific findings.
c) Generating fake or unverifiable references.
d) Producing visual content that misrepresents or distorts factual information.
5. Responsibilities of Editors
Editors must not upload any unpublished content (e.g., manuscripts, figures) to public AI platforms.
Editors may use AI tools internally (e.g., for similarity checking or technical screening) only with the journal’s consent and without violating author confidentiality.
Editors should evaluate AI disclosure statements critically and request clarification when needed.
6. Responsibilities of Reviewers
Reviewers must not use AI tools to review or summarize manuscripts by uploading unpublished content.
Suspected misuse of AI must be reported confidentially to the editor.
Feedback about AI use in manuscripts should be based on objective standards and journal policies.
7. Consequences of Policy Violations
Failure to disclose AI usage or misuse of AI tools may lead to:
Rejection during review.
Post-publication correction or retraction.
Blacklisting of authors in severe or repeated cases.
