Evaluation of the Antalya Museum Building within the Scope of Sustainable Building Renovation

Abstract

In today's world, where global problems such as climate change and global warming are prevalent, buildings play a significant role in these problems. The intensive use of energy derived from natural resources leads to resource depletion and environmental problems. To reduce the negative impacts of buildings on the natural environment, water efficiency, material use, and waste management must be ensured. Renovating buildings with sustainable features not only reduces negative impacts but also contributes to cultural sustainability by ensuring their continued use and their significant place in the city's memory through their location and identity. This study presents an evaluation of the sustainable renovation of the Antalya Museum building. Through an analysis of the building's current condition, the needs for sustainable renovation are revealed. Within the scope of the study, focusing on the steps that constitute sustainable architecture approaches, suggestions are developed for the Antalya Museum building, which holds an important place in the city's memory, in line with the sustainable renovation of buildings, focusing on energy efficiency, water and waste management, digitalization, community participation, and the preservation of cultural heritage. As a result of the study, a sustainable roadmap is created for the Antalya Museum, and strategies that can be applied for a transformation model that can serve as an example for other museums are discussed.
