Ethical Principles and Publication Policy
The Journal of Aviation Technologies and Management follows a publication policy based on research and publication ethics. The journal adheres to the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and to the TR Dizin journal evaluation criteria. The responsibilities of authors, editors and reviewers are set out below.
Originality and Prior Publication
Manuscripts submitted to the journal must not have been published previously, in whole or in part, and must not be under review elsewhere. Manuscripts derived from papers presented at scientific events may be considered, provided that the full text has not been published in proceedings and that the title and details of the event are given in a footnote on the title page. Manuscripts derived from theses or projects must be declared in the same way.
Similarity Check
All submissions are screened for similarity using iThenticate, Turnitin or intihal.net. The thresholds, excluding citations and the reference list, are as follows:
- 10% or below: the manuscript proceeds to peer review.
- Between 10% and 20%: the manuscript is returned to the authors for revision before peer review.
- Above 20%: the manuscript is rejected without the option of revision.
If ethical issues are identified at any stage and are not adequately resolved, the manuscript is rejected.
Ethics Committee Approval
Studies that require ethics committee approval, and whose data were collected in 2020 or later, must have that approval. The name of the committee, the decision date and the decision number must be stated in the Method section and in the Declarations section of the manuscript, and the approval document must be uploaded to the system. Informed consent must be obtained from participants in studies involving human subjects. For studies that do not require approval, a statement to that effect must be included. Review articles do not require ethics committee approval.
Peer Review Process
- Initial check: Each submission is first checked by the assistant editor for compliance with the author guidelines and for similarity. Manuscripts that do not meet the requirements are returned to the authors.
- Editorial evaluation: Suitable manuscripts are anonymized and evaluated by the section editor and the editorial board in terms of scientific quality, originality and fit with the journal’s scope.
- Peer review: Research articles, review articles and technical notes that pass this stage are sent to at least two independent reviewers under a double-blind process. Editorials are evaluated by the editors only.
- Revision: Based on the reviewer reports, authors may be asked to revise their manuscripts. Authors must submit a response report explaining the changes made and the reasons for any suggestions not adopted. The section editor evaluates the revised manuscript against the reviewer reports.
- Conflicting reports: If the reviewer reports conflict, the manuscript may be sent to a third reviewer, or the editorial board may decide on the basis of the existing reports.
- Final decision: The final decision on publication is made by the Editor-in-Chief.
After acceptance, the assistant editor checks the manuscript for compliance with the journal’s standards, including spelling, punctuation, in-text citations and references. Accepted manuscripts are scheduled in order of acceptance date. The editors may change this order for reasons such as issue integrity, topical relevance or technical preparation.
The typeset version is sent to the corresponding author for final proofreading. At this stage, only minor and essential corrections may be requested; changes that would require re-typesetting are not accepted.
Responsibilities of Authors
- Authors must ensure that the work is original, that all sources are properly cited and that the data are not fabricated or falsified.
- Authors must obtain permission to reproduce third-party material.
- Authorship is limited to those who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution or interpretation of the study. Any change in the list or order of authors after submission requires the written consent of all authors and the approval of the editor.
- Authors must disclose all financial and personal relationships that could constitute a conflict of interest.
- If authors discover a significant error in their submitted or published work, they must promptly notify the editor and cooperate in correcting or retracting it.
- Authors must provide raw data upon the editor’s request.
Responsibilities of Editors
- Editors evaluate manuscripts solely on the basis of scientific merit, originality and fit with the journal’s scope, regardless of the authors’ identity, institution, nationality, gender or beliefs.
- Editors maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts and of the peer review process.
- Editors withdraw from handling any manuscript in which they have a conflict of interest.
- Editors take appropriate action in cases of suspected misconduct, in line with COPE guidelines.
Responsibilities of Reviewers
- Reviewers accept only manuscripts within their area of expertise and complete their evaluations within the allotted time.
- Reviewers evaluate impartially and use constructive language consistent with academic courtesy.
- Reviewers keep the manuscripts they review confidential. They must not share them with third parties or use them for their own benefit, either during or after the review process.
- If reviewers identify information that could reveal the authors’ identity, or a potential conflict of interest, they must decline the review and inform the editor.
- Reviewers must report any suspected ethical misconduct to the editor.
Use of Generative Artificial Intelligence
AI tools cannot be listed as authors. Authors who use generative AI in preparing a manuscript must state the tool and the purpose of its use, and they remain fully responsible for the content. Reviewers and editors must not upload manuscripts under review to generative AI tools.
Corrections, Retractions and Expressions of Concern
When necessary, the journal publishes corrections or retractions in line with COPE guidelines. Retracted articles remain accessible but are clearly marked as retracted.
Appeals and Complaints
Authors may appeal an editorial decision by sending a reasoned request to the editorial office. Appeals are evaluated by the Editor-in-Chief and, where necessary, by an independent member of the editorial board.
Open Access, Copyright and Licensing
The journal is fully open access. Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC 4.0). Upon acceptance, authors must sign the “Copyright Agreement Form” and the “Ethics Declaration Form”.
Publication Fees
The journal does not charge any submission, review or publication fees.
