Abstract
Objective: The research was conducted to determine the effect of the simulation method in teaching Leopold maneuvers on the learning satisfaction and self-confidence of midwifery students.
Methods: The research was conducted as a quasi-experimental, randomized controlled study. The universe of the study consisted of second-year students of a university's midwifery department. The study was completed with 61 students. After the students were given video-based training, the experimental group was given Leopold maneuvers training with a simulation model. The study was conducted with pregnant women in a university hospital. The data of the study were collected with the Sociodemographic Information Form, the Leopold Maneuvers Skill Evaluation Form and the Student Learning Satisfaction and Self-Confidence Scale.
Results: The findings of the Leopold maneuvers skill assessment form on pregnant women were found to be significant in favor of the simulation group (p<0.05). The posttest score of the simulation group on the student satisfaction and self-confidence in learning scale was found to be significantly higher than their pretest score (p=0.043).
Conclusion: It was determined that the simulation-based teaching technique had an effect on developing Leopold maneuvers practice skills. In addition, it was concluded that increased student satisfaction and self-confidence in learning.
Keywords: Midwifery student, simulation education, Leopold maneuvers skill, self-confidence, satisfaction in learning
