Asthma exacerbation related with inhalation of hot peppers extract (capsaicin)

Abstract

Objectives: In this study we aimed to prospectively investigate, asthma provoking factors and among these factors the place of Hot pepper (Isot) during August-September months which are time period for processing isot. Methods: In this study, 73 female patients with exacerbation of asthma who applied to Chest Diseases Outpatient Clinic and emergency department in the period of August-September (2010) were evaluated prospectively. Results: Seventy-three asthmatic female patients, means age 34.7±6.1 (22-43) years were included. Patients with exacerbation of asthma provoking factors are; inhalation of isot pepper 28.8%, infections 23.3%, irregular use of drugs 16.4%, exposure to biomass and cigarette smoke 13.7%, allergens 9.6%, emotional factors 5%, and gastroesophageal reflux 2.7%, physical exercise 1.4%. Conclusion: We observed that the most important asthma provoking factor was the inhalation of isot extract in asthmatic female patients in August-September (2010) period in Sanliurfa. İsot biberi özü (kapsaisin) inhalasyonuna bağlı gelişen astım atakları

Abstract

Amaç: Çalışmamızda Şanlıurfa\'da isot biberinin hasat, kurutma ve salça yapım zamanı olan Ağustos-Eylül aylarında astımlı kadınların astımlarını provoke eden nedenler ve bu nedenler içinde isot biberinin yeri prospektif olarak araştırıldı. Yöntemler: Bu çalışmada Göğüs Hastalıkları ve Acil Polikliniğine 2010 Ağustos-Eylül ayları arasında başvuran 73 astım akut ataklı kadın olgu prospektif değerlendirildi. Bulgular: Çalışmaya yaş ortalamaları 34,7±6,1(22-43) yıl olan 73 kadın olgu alındı. Olgularda astım atağını provoke eden nedenler değerlendirildiğinde; %28,8 ile ilk sırada isot biberi inhalasyonu gelirken %23,3 ile enfeksiyonlar, %16,4 düzensiz ilaç kullanımı, %13,7 sigara-tandır dumanına maruziyet, %9,6 allerjenler, %5 emosyonel faktörler, %.2,7 gastroösefagial reflü ve %1,4 ile egzersiz gelmekte idi. Sonuç: Sonuç olarak, Şanlıurfa\'da 2010 yılı Ağustos-Eylül aylarında astımlı kadınların astımlarını provoke eden en önemli nedenin isot biberi özü inhalasyonu olduğu gözlenmiştir.
