Objectives: To evaluate an outbreak of influenza A-H1N1 during neonatal period, and discuss prophylactic, and control measures. Method: We retrospectively reviewed the medical records of newborns who were admitted to Şişli Etfal Children’s Hospital between October 2009 and March 2010. with suspect influenza A-H1N1 infection Results: Fifteen newborns were admitted to our hospital because of suspect A-H1N infection. The most common clinical manifestations of these infants were cough, rhinitis, wheezing, moaning, and fever Nasopharengeal specimens were obtained from all patients. Influenza A-H1N1 virus was isolated from respiratory tract swabs of only two newborns. No bacterial pathogen was isolated from blood culture. None of them needed mechanical ventilation and all of them survived. Conclusion: In order to reduce mortality and morbidity in all age groups, all the members of the community, families and especially health care workers should be educated regarding prevention and control measures of influenza infection.
