Abstract

Herpes Zoster Infection in Two Healthy Children

Year 2012, Volume: 12 Issue: 3, 142 - 144, 01.07.2012

Abstract

Herpes zoster infection which results from reactivation of latent varicella zoster virus is rare in children and often associated with immunosuppression. However, recently an increase in the incidence of pediatric herpes zoster cases have been seen. The incidence of herpes zoster infection in healthy children is increasing. Exposure to varicella infec- tion in intrauterine life and early childhood constitute a risk for the development of herpes zoster infection. Remarkably, a possible relationship exists between exposu- re to varicella infection in small children with not fully developed immunity and infection of herpes zoster in child- hood. Herein, two healthy children with early stage herpes zoster infection are presented who had suffered from vari- cella infection with small number of lesions
