Abstract

Caffeine is known as a major stimulant which causes insomnia sleep disorders , headaches, failure to concentrate, increased heart rate and blood pressure, gastric defects, diuresis and an increased risk of osteoporosis after menopause. Furthermore, its excessive consumption by pregnant women can give rise to spontaneous miscarriages or low birth weight of the babies. Therefore, caffeine is one of the most disputed and investigated nutritional components in last few years. This study is aimed at raising awareness about sources of caffeine, its consumption levels and its effects on health among children, adolescents, parents and medical professionals. The message of the nutritional education provided to children and/or their parents should encourage limited consumption of caffeine.

Çocuk Sağlığı ve Kafein

Abstract

Önemli bir uyarıcı olan kafeinin, uykusuzluğa, baş ağrısına, konsantrasyon bozukluğuna, kalp atımı ve kan basıncında artışa, mide sorunlarına, gebe kadınlarda spontan düşüklere, düşük doğum ağırlıklı bebeklere neden olduğu, kemik sağlığını olumsuz etkileyerek menapoz sonrası osteoporoz riskini artırdığı, diüretik etki yaptığı bildirilmektedir. Bu nedenle kafein, son yılların en çok araştırılan, tartışılan besin bileşenlerinden biridir. Bu makale çocukları, gençleri, anne-babaları ve sağlık profesyonellerini kafein, kaynakları, tüketim düzeyi ve önerileri, sağlık üzerine etkileri konusunda bilinçlendirmek amacıyla yazılmıştır.
