Hastaların Hasta Haklarına Yönelik Bilgi Düzeyleri ve Kullanma Tutumlarının İncelenmesi: Tanımlayıcı Kesitsel Bir Çalışma

Year 2023, Volume: 3 Issue: 2, 63 - 73, 31.08.2023

Abstract

Examination of Patients' Knowledge Levels and Attitudes to Use Regarding Patients’ Rights: A Descriptive Cross-sectional Study

Year 2023, Volume: 3 Issue: 2, 63 - 73, 31.08.2023

Abstract

Aim: In addition to informing patients about patient rights, it is also important to what extent they use this information. This study, it was aimed to examine the knowledge levels and usage attitudes of patients about patient rights.
Methods: This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted with 253 adult patients who were hospitalized in a university and a private hospital between 05.04-05.05.2017, had sufficient consent, and agreed to participate in the study. Data were collected with the "Patient Rights Information Scale" and "Patient’ Rights Using Attitude Scale". Ethical consent, institutional permissions, scale author's permissions, and written consent from the patients were obtained for the study. Number and percentage distribution, mean, standard deviation, t-test for independent groups, and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used in the analysis of the data.
Results: It was determined that the patient's level of knowledge about patient rights was high (Mean±SD=40.25±3.03) and their attitudes to using patient rights were low (Mean±SD=48.71±13.85). It was determined that patients who learned about patient rights from the media had a higher and statistically significant attitude towards using patient rights than patients who learned about patient rights from hospitals (p<0.05).
Practice Implications: The first step in recognizing and exercising one's rights is knowing what their rights are. When this provides, patients will develop an attitude toward exercising their rights with the awareness of knowing their rights.
