Abstract

Guillain-Barre Sendromu (GBS) immün aracılı periferal sinir myelin
kılıf hasarı ile karakterize akut polinöropatidir. Rapor edilen ölüm
oranı %2-5 arasında olmak ile birlikte hastaların %25’i solunumsal
ve bulbar kasların tutulumuna bağlı olarak mekanik ventilatöre
ihtiyaç duymaktadır. Klinik bulgular, lumbal ponksiyon ve/veya
elektrotanısal testler ile desteklenerek GBS tanısı konur. GBS’dan
şüphenilen hastaların yönetiminde ilk adım solunum fonksiyonunun
değerlendirilmesi ve hava yolunun korunmasıdır. GBS tedavisinde
IV immunglobülin (IVIG) ve plazmaferez kullanılmaktadır.
Bu yazıda tipik klinik tablosu, elektrotanısal testler ile tanısı konan
ve plazmeferez tedavisinden fayda gören bir GBS olgusu anlatılmaktadır.

Case Presentation of an Acute Motor Neuropathy Variant of Guillain-Barré Syndrome

Abstract

Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) is a type of acute polyneuropathy characterized by immune-mediated injury to the myelin sheath. The reported mortality rate varies between 2-5%, and 25% of patients require mechanical ventilation due to respiratory and bulbar muscle involvement. GBS can be diagnosed by clinical findings together with lumbar puncture and/or electrodiagnostic results. The first step in the management of patients with suspected GBS is an evaluation of respiratory function and protection of the airway. IV immunoglobulin and plasmapheresis have been used in the treatment of GBS. A case of GBS with typical history and physical findings supported by electrodiagnostic testing is described in this paper
