Trend Analysis of Some Meteorological Variables In Gaziantep Provience

Abstract

The effects of climate change are felt more clearly on meteorological variables. Regional and basin-based climate changes have become more pronounced over time. While an increase in precipitation was observed in some regions compared to previous years, a decrease was detected in other regions. For example, while an increase in precipitation in the Black Sea Region is observedin 2023, the decrease in precipitation in the Aegean Region decreaeses. In this study, the trends of certain climate parameters over the years were examined using Statistical and Single Spectrum Analysis (TSA) methods, and the effects of these parameters (humidity, temperature, precipitation sunshine duration and wind speed) on evaporation were investigated. One of the most important factors triggering evaporation is global warming. Gradual increases in air temperatures also increase the evaporation rate. Especially in recent years, the decrease in agricultural and forest lands and the increase in road and pavement areas due to intense urbanization are among the main reasons for these increases. In areas where there are no reinforced concrete structures, water can be retained by soil or plants. There are various statistical and black box methods in the literature for evaporation calculation. In this study, Gaziantep, one of the provinces with the highest evaporation intensity in Türkiye, was selected. In the study, trend analyses of monthly average humidity, temperature, evaporation, precipitation, sunshine duration, and wind speed data recorded between 2002 and 2022 at station number 17261 in Gaziantep province were carried out using linear regression, Mann-Kendall test, Sen's slope test, and TSA methods. The complete data was obtained from Muş Provincial Directorate of Meteorology. According to the analysis results, the correlation values between evaporation and sunshine duration were found to be 0.579, and between evaporation and wind speed was found to be -0.129. As a result of this study, it was obtained that climate change was felt significantly in Gaziantep province and this change did not create a homogeneous effect on the meteorological variables examined.
