Abstract

Tensile properties are some of the important parameters when considering the quality of rotor spun yarns. This research work set out to investigating the effect of four factors namely count, twist, opening roller speed and rotor speed on the tensile properties of rotor spun yarn. Taguchi Experimental Design was used to study the influence of the four factors on yarn tensile (strength and elongation) properties. The experiments were carried out in a textile factory in Uganda. The results obtained in this research work indicated that both single and combined effects of the selected factors significantly affected yarn strength and elongation. For the given cotton lint, optimum tensile properties could be obtained at 15Ne, 5TM, 8000 rpm and 90,0000 rpm for count, twist, opening roller speed and rotor speed respectively.
