Year 2014, Volume: 1 Issue: 1 - Volume: 1 Issue: 1, 26 - 34, 23.07.2016

Abstract

1. grup Rijit bant grubu (N=20, 12 kadın, 8 erkek), 2. grup Plasebo grubu (N=20, 17 kadın, 3 erkek), 3. grup Kinezyo bantlama grubu (N=20, 11 kadın, 9 erkek) olarak belirlendi.

Effects of different taping techniques on quality of life and pain in low back pain patients without any neurological deficits

Year 2014, Volume: 1 Issue: 1 - Volume: 1 Issue: 1, 26 - 34, 23.07.2016

Abstract

Purpose: The taping techniques in physical therapy are known to support low back muscles, decrease pain, and affect quality of quality. The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of using taping techniques on pain and the quality of life in lumbar problems without neurological deficits, and to determine the effect of different taping techniques and different taping materials. Methods: Sixty volunteers without any neurological deficiency, with lumbar pain, aged between 20 and 65 years were included in the study. Patients were divided into 3 equal groups. First group was defined as group Mc Connell tape (N=20, 12 female, 8 male), 2nd group as group placebo (N=20, 17 female, 3 male), and 3rd group as group Kinesio Taping (N=20, 11 female, 9 male). Taping therapies were done by the same physical therapist 3 times a week, for 2 weeks in all 3 groups. In all groups, RolandMorris Life Quality Query, 10 cm visual analogue scale (VAS), lumbar range of motion (flexion, extension, and lateral flexion to right and left), using goniometer, trunk flexion, and hand-ground distances were measured and recorded before and following physiotherapy. Results: No difference was found regarding demographic data among the groups (p>0.05). When comparing pre-taping and post-taping VAS scores, a significant difference was found in the placebo group (p<0.05), whereas no difference was found in other data (p>0.05). Group Kinesiotaping had the best results in quality of life, pain, and hand-ground distance. Conclusion: Taping therapy has positive effects on pain and quality of life in low back problems without neurological deficiency. When compared to rigid taping and placebo Kinesio Taping was found to be more effective
