Abstract
In this research, the pharmacological and toxicological effects of the venom from the A.crassicauda, from which Turkish polyvalent scorpion sera is prepared, were investigated.
In the first section, the effects of the venom on the isolated organs were searched. It is determined that, while the constrictor effect of the venom is potentiated with eserine; the same effect is inhibited with atropine, streptomycin, morphine and arfonad. It is also found that, the constrictor effect of the venom on the rectus abdominis muscle
of the frog is antagonized by streptomycin and d-tubocurarine. In the second section, the substances which might inhibit the hypertensive and bronchoconstrictor effects of the venom were investigated. The hypertensive effect is inhibited completely with priscol,
a nd partially with reserpine and streptomycin. It is also determined that, streptomycin prevents signigicantly the bronchoconstrictor effect of the venom. In the third section, assay on the toxicity of A.crassicauda venom were carried out. Although streptomycin prevented some of the important effects of the venom, no significant difference in toxicity was observed.
