Objective: This study was planned to determine the level of
knowledge of breastmilk students in midwifery department of a public
university. Material-Methods: The sample of the type of
research is descriptive, a public university in the academic year 2018-19
Faculty of Health Sciences 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade students Midwifery has
created 181 students who agreed to participate in the study. Data created by
the researchers "Personal Information Form" and "Level of
Information on Breast Milk Banking " were collected using. Data were
analyzed with mean, standard deviation, frequency, percentage and pearson chi
square test. Results: 55.3% of the students don’t
have any knowledge about breastmilk banking. The
ratio of those who don’t know the existence of breastmilk banking in Turkey is
77.9%. Infants who’re fed with milk taken from milk banks respond to the high
risk of infection, while 45.3% of the students were undecided. 36.5% of the
students think that buying milk from the milkbank will be a social problem and
45.3% think that it’ll cause ethical problems. 54.7% of students were undecided
about breastfeeding in Turkey needs to breastmilk banking. There was a
significant positive difference between breastmilk banking and class grade (p =
0.00). Conclusion: It is very important that
midwives, who’re the most important members of the multidisciplinary team, have
accurate and complete information about breastmilk banking and guide mothers
and pregnant women in this regard. For this reason, it’s very important to
share the current knowledge of breastmilk banking with midwives in midwifery
education.
