A Study on Teaching Ethical Values in Geography Lessons

Abstract

The study areas of geography have gradually expanded and diversified until today. The applications of methodological approaches and technological developments in the field of geography in the recent period have facilitated the examination of many issues. In this context, one of the important issues that geographers have been working on recently has been ethics. The aim of the study is to reveal the necessity of including ethical values in geography lessons. Document analysis, one of the qualitative research methods, was used in this study. The obtained data were analyzed through content analysis. As a result of the analysis, it was concluded that it is important to include topics that establish connections between environmental ethics and space in geography lessons. Today, there are few studies that examine the ethical evaluation of the relationship between environment and human in the field of geography, and it has been suggested that such studies should be included more.

Coğrafya Derslerinde Etik Değerler Öğretimi Üzerine Bir İnceleme

Abstract

Coğrafyanın inceleme alanları günümüze kadar gittikçe genişlemiş ve çeşitlenmiştir. Yakın dönemde coğrafya sahasında görülen metodolojik yaklaşımların ve teknolojik gelişmelerin uygulamaları birçok hususun incelenmesine kolaylık sağlamıştır. Bu çerçevede coğrafyacıların son dönemde üzerinde çalışmalar yaptıkları önemli hususlardan birisi de etik olmuştur. Çalışmanın amacı coğrafya derslerinde etik değerlere yer verilmesinin gerekliliğini ortaya koymaktır. Bu çalışmada nitel araştırma yöntemlerinden doküman analizi kullanılmıştır. Elde edilen veriler içerik analizi yoluyla çözümlenmiştir. Yapılan çözümlemeler neticesinde coğrafya derslerinde çevresel etik ve mekân arasında bağlantılar kuran konuların yer almasının önemli olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Günümüzde coğrafya bilimi alanında çevre-insan ilişkisi değerlendirmesinin etik olarak incelendiği çalışmaların az olduğu ve bu tür çalışmalara daha fazla yer verilmesi önerilmiştir.
